A Symposium on Large-Scale Data Inference is in Silver Spring on October 18th. Information is a bit scant, but statistical data visualization seems to be a theme.

USAID is sponsoring a hackathon on September 14th-16th called "Hacking for Hunger". The goal is to build new ways of improving food security using open data.
