There have been three big changes at Data Community DC in recent days!
First, a big welcome to the Data Education DC Meetup, which is joining us under the DC2 umbrella. DEDC (formerly Data Driven DC) offers bi-monthly events focused on practical presentations about fundamental techniques in data science and analytics. Co-organizers Dmitri Adler and Joshuah Touyz are joining the DC2 board, and we welcome their energy, enthusiasm, and skills! Please check out their events, and say hello when you see them.
Second, the DC2 board recently held its third annual election for officers. The previous officers were all term-limited, per DC2's bylaws, so here's the new lineup. Tony Ojeda is stepping up as President, after a long stint as Treasurer. Harlan Harris is moving to the Secretary role, after being DC2's first President. And please welcome Benjamin Bengfort, our new Treasurer. Also, a huge thank-you to Sean Gonzalez, who departs as DC2's Secretary. He will remain on the Board as Representative from the Data Visualization DC Meetup.
Finally, best wishes to our friends at Data Science MD. DSMD has been part of DC2 for almost two years, but due to the minimal geographic overlap, lead organizers Matt Motyka and Jason Barbour have decided that their group will leave DC2 to focus on other things. They remain committed to being part of a growing community of professionals interested in data and technology, and DSMD will remain one of a number of organizations with an informal, collaborative relationship with DC2.
We all look forward to seeing you at events, and here's to a great 2015!
