Data Engineer

CAVA is a rapidly expanding fast-casual restaurant and CPG brand focusing on fresh, Mediterranean-inspired, better-for-you cuisine. Born from our full-service restaurants, our chef-driven fast-casual format operates in four states with further expansion ahead.

We are looking for a thoughtful Data Engineer to help implement our vision at our corporate headquarters in Washington, DC. The position will report to the Chief Data Scientist, and will require a passion for our mission, awareness of emerging technology, and the ability to leverage disparate data streams within multiple internal core functions to holistically enhance business processes and guest experience.

You will:

  • Connect existing infrastructure at CAVA between vendors and our teams.
  • Collaborate with cross functional agile teams to continuously experiment, iterate and deliver on new project goals.
  • Chuckle at the idea of 10 million records being “large.”
  • Build large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines with data processing frameworks like Scalding, Scio, Storm, Spark and the Amazon Web Services platform.
  • Develop and leverage best practices in continuous integration and delivery.
  • Help drive optimization, testing and tooling to improve data quality.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, Data Scientists and stakeholders, taking learning and leadership opportunities that arise every single day.
  • Work in cross functional agile teams to continuously experiment, iterate and deliver on new product objectives.

You have:

  • 2-3 years experience as a data engineer with a degree in information systems, computer science or similar field
  • Experience with AWS, Hadoop, MapReduce, Hive, Pig, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Data streaming, NoSQL, SQL, programming.
  • You are knowledgeable about data modeling, data access, and data storage techniques.
  • You know how to work with high volume heterogeneous data, preferably with distributed systems such as Hadoop, Hive, Pig, BigTable, and Cassandra, or other large data stores such as Postgres, MySQL, and Amazon Redshift.
  • You are knowledgeable about data modeling, data access, and data storage techniques.
  • You are passionate about agile software processes, data-driven development, reliability, and responsible experimentation.
  • You understand the value of collaboration within teams.
