The IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI) is a non-profit, federally funded research and development center that provides analytical support to OSTP, NASA, and other federal agencies on science and technology (S&T) policy issues.

STPI is seeking a Research Associate (RA) who will apply classical statistics, network analysis, and machine learning methods to inform science & technology (S&T) policy research questions for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and other federal agencies. The RA will support research involving methods such as statistics, data mining, machine learning, text analytics, and topic modeling; analyze complex and often unstructured data; support standards for data workflow, analysis, and quality; mentor post-baccalaureate research fellows; and engage with their professional community. Research Associate (RAs) collaborate with Research Analysts and post-baccalaureate research fellows to collect and analyze data and document findings.
Bachelors degree and 3 years related work experience or Masters degree and 2 years related work experience is required.
The successful applicant must have demonstrated experience with:
computational models and languages—including but not limited to R or Python
wrangling messy data
analyzing and visualizing the data
communicating findings through high-quality presentations and written reports to both technical and non-technical audiences
quantitative or qualitative research methods
Strong oral and written communications skills are essential.
U.S. Citizenship is required
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required
